Best of Vegas: Mama Rabbit Mezcal + Tequila Bar

    October 6, 2019

For years, the frontier of Las Vegas dining was exclusively populated by enterprising male chefs. Border Grill at Mandalay Bay was one of the first women-led operations, helmed by Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. Since then, restaurants such as Giada at The Cromwell and Chica at The Venetian have also made their mark. Now Bricia Lopez, of LA’s lauded Guelaguetza, brings a new concept to Park MGM with Mama Rabbit Mezcal +Tequila Bar. Lopez has long been heralded as a mezcal messiah of sorts, bringing this lesser-known Mexican agave-distilled alcohol to the masses. The niche beverage...read the rest here. February 11, 2019

In a city that loves to discard the old and praise the new, it’s encouraging to see that some Las Vegas eateries have survived and thrived throughout the decades. Each of the restaurants on this list has seen culinary and design fads come and go, but they remain steadfast in their embrace of the classics. Here, the titles of ‘waiter’ and ‘bartender’ are not stop gaps but careers. Ramp up the romance of your Valentine’s Day evening with the charm of old-school Vegas at any of these locations. Hugo’s Cellar Descend the stairs inside the Four Queens Hotel and Casino to be transported to another time and place. The host hands each woman who enters…

Game Day Eats: Where to Dine Before a Vegas Golden Knights Game

    October 29, 2018

Vegas Golden Knights games at T-Mobile Arena are incredibly entertaining and fun to attend. With a little planning, the whole evening can be a rousing success from start to finish. Figuring out where to park and what time to arrive are both important. Pre-game dining, however, plays an even bigger role in setting up an epic outing. Bruxie While massive menus can be great, it’s always a good sign when a restaurant chooses to specialize and focus on a smaller selection. This is the case for Bruxie, a California export known for their fried chicken and waffle sandwiches. An intriguing take on a comfort food classic, Bruxie’s chicken and waffle…

5 Reasons to Visit The Neon Museum

    September 12, 2018

Before The Neon Museum came along, the Neon Boneyard was just what the name implies– heaps of old neon signs baking in the scorching desert sun. But through the dedication of passionate and resourceful people, it has transformed into a fun, uniquely “Vegas” excursion that adds to the city’s eclectic selection of museums and exhibits. For visitors and locals alike, here are 5 reasons to visit The Neon Museum now. View Vegas History Sin City is not a place known for its appreciation of history. The Strip is littered with new construction planted in the resting place of the many establishments that came before it. This lack of sentimental attachment, luckily...read…

Must-Visit Vegas: Off-Strip Shopping on Main Street

    September 9, 2018

While many venture to Vegas for the shows, nightlife and other attractions on or near The Strip, there’s plenty to explore outside of this glitzy region. One such destination is Main Street, between Charleston Boulevard and Wyoming Avenue, which has seen plenty of changes as part of the city’s Downtown renaissance. One thing has remained constant on this straight stretch of road: it continues to offer...read the rest here This post was written for Best of Vegas

During my stint as an Arts District shop owner, I realized an important thing—not all artists are born equal. Some are happy to perpetuate the stereotype of the tortured creative who can’t commit or abide by a deadline. Some, however, have an incredible work ethic and endeavor to improve their craft in any way they can. Mike Biggs is the latter. Born and raised here, in Vegas, he feels the city has a certain edge that seeped into his art via the “fun, creepy, dark themes” he enjoys “impressing on people’s eyeballs.” I’m always inspired by artists who have a unique style or point of view and pursue various mediums…

Where to Buy Books in Vegas

    July 18, 2018

In my first blog post, I discussed my hatred of Amazon and love of libraries. I also tapped The Writer’s Block as #TheVegasILove. And as much as both libraries and The Writer’s Block are wonderful they’re not the only game in town. I’m going to assume you enjoy supporting local businesses rather than large corporations (because you’re a good person, right?). So to aid you in that support, here are profiles on three amazing locally owned bookstores. Dragon Castle Books (Used) This used bookstore is owned and operated by a mother/son team: Carla and Danny. As soon as I walked in, Carla greeted me from behind a counter surrounded by…

    Best Budget-Friendly Vegetarian Vegas Restaurants

    July 15, 2018

Most restaurants have the obligatory one or two vegetarian dishes. If I never eat or see another bland grilled veggie sandwich or try to make a meal out of sides again I'll be a happy woman indeed. Being a vegetarian shouldn’t be a boring affair. Or a costly one. There are a variety of delightful dining options for vegetarians that will put a smile on your face instead of a strain on your wallet. I culled this list from locally owned restaurants (no outside franchises) where you can leave satisfied on $12 and under. 1. Archi's I know I'm going to catch flak for this, but I don't care. Archi's…

    New in Town: Moshe Shawarma

    July 8, 2018

My husband and I were made for each other. We have a love that runs so deep it threatens the earth’s core. But even we are not immune to the siren call of the age-old relationship slayer—“where do you want to eat?” The mysteries of that question may never be solved, but last week, Rich was able to quickly diffuse an otherwise incendiary situation by suggesting we try somewhere new: Moshe Shawarma. Mediterranean fare is delicious year-round, but the airy flavors and focus on vegetable sides is particularly alluring in the summer. So I was definitely on board to give this new place a try. Although the name suggested an…
